A psychiatric assessment is a diagnostic evaluation that considers a patient’s physical/psychological health and social situation. This assessment includes a review of personal history, a mental status check, and may include communication with family members.
This appointment allows time to discuss the potential benefits and risks involved in changing your medication and/or treatment plan, review lab testing, and rating scales. During this appointment, the patient can also learn more about developing new behaviors and perspectives.
One or more family members (e.g. parent, sibling, spouse, significant other, etc.) may attend the meeting with the patient. Appointments are discussed in advance to ensure that each person has enough time to participate.
